Over 100,000 fans frock up annually for Cup Day alone, where the days racing evolves around the A$8 million dollar Melbourne Cup. Fans, horses and trainers come from around the world for the tense 3-minute, 3200m race, where careers are made and lost.

If you’re new to Melbourne, it’s the perfect host city and Australia’s sporting capital. Flemington is located to the north of the city. You can get there by public transport, taxi or if included with your package, our group transfers. Aside from the racing, Melbourne is known as Australia’s cultural city with a thriving arts, restaurant and music scene that will engage and delight visitors. AAMI Victoria Derby Day, Saturday 30 October 2021
One of the most prestigious days of racing with nine Group races, four at the elite Group 1 level including AAMI Victoria Derby, Australia’s premier staying classic for three-year olds. The fashion stakes are equally high with the commencement of the Myer Fashions on the Field competition. This is the day for classic elegance, which sets the tone of the week. Women typically opt for black and white, while men wear a grey morning suit and pin-stripe pants.

The focal point of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, there’s nothing quite like being there as over 100,000 fans erupt as the race unfolds. The excitement slowly builds to its 3pm fever pitch when everything at the track comes to a stop for 200 heart-pounding seconds. Each year, a new chapter is written, a new legend is made and a new dream comes true in the quest to win Australia’s most famous sporting trophy.
Kennedy Oaks Day, Thursday 4 November 2021
Known as the style day of the Carnival and commonly called ‘Ladies Day’, women of all ages come together dressed in their most feminine ensemble. The winner of the Myer Fashions on the Field is announced, reinforcing its importance on the fashion calendar. The racing highlight is the Group 1 Kennedy Oaks, the classic for three-year old fillies over 2500m.
VRC Seppelt Stakes Day, Saturday 6 November 2021
The Melbourne Cup Carnival concludes with Seppelt Wines Stakes Day, featuring Victoria’s premier 1600m event, the Group 1 Seppelt Mackinnon Stakes. Seppelt Wines Stakes Day is the fastest growing race day for the four day Carnival with crowds topping 80,000 in recent years. It is also recognised as the Carnival’s family day, with the focus on family fun and an abundance of free activities available for children.

With the large growth in the population came a need for public infrastructure; large public buildings were erected including Parliament House, the Melbourne Gaol, the State Library, Melbourne Town Hall and St Patrick’s Cathedral. After World War II Melbourne expanded again due to immigration from southern Europe and the Mediterranean. The now-famous Collins street became popular with boutique shops and open-air cafes, now known as The Paris End of Town. Melbourne today is known for its diverse culture, arts and music scene, incredible food and coffee, beautiful beachside towns and love of sports.

November means springtime in Melbourne, which is a wonderful time to visit. The average high sits around 23C with lows around 12C. The days are getting longer with heightened UV Indexes, so remember to wear sunscreen. We suggest checking the forecast in advance and preparing for mixed weather. Many past Melbourne Cup Carnivals have seen beautiful blue skies, as well as cold weather and clouds. ‘That’s all part of the fun’ as we Melburnians like to say.

We accept payments by bank transfer (EFT), credit cards and cheque. Domestic bank transfers and cheques have no fees. International bank transfers (e.g. from an international bank to our Australian bank or from an Australian bank to our international bank) incur a nominal A$20 service fee per transaction. All credit card payments incur merchant fees. For Visa and MasterCard it’s 1.5% and for American Express it’s 1.98%.

  1. Start your journey by making a new enquiry or speak to a Travel Expert 
  2. From there, you can make a new booking or discuss your travel requirements in more detail. Our Travel Experts will happily provide more information or put together a custom-made package, just for you
  3. After confirming your booking, you will receive a deposit invoice and booking confirmation with more information about your trip
  4. If the event is still a while away, you will receive email updates from our team with more information and event announcements as the information comes to hand
  5. Approximately four weeks before the event begins, we start sending out your travel documents. You will receive a travel documents email and if required, a parcel with physical items as well. The travel documents email will contain personalised travel information, itineraries, vouchers and details about your trip. Your parcel (if applicable) will contain tickets, merchandise and supporter gear. For some events, or if you live internationally and cannot receive your parcel within the available timeframe, we will make your parcel available for collection from your hotel or an official collection centre. If this is the case, you will be advised within your travel documents email, this always comes first
  6. That’s it — you’ll be ready to travel!

Events Travel’s COVID-19 Global Pandemic Statement

Dear Customers,

In these extraordinary times, we hope you are staying safe and well.

We are optimistic about travel opening up domestically in the next few months within Australia and travel to New Zealand permitted in September. After this, we expect travel to open within the Asia-Pacific region and globally by early 2021.

As such, our full range of packages, tours and services are now on sale for events taking place after 8 October 2020. In addition, events taking place in 2021 and 2022 are now on sale (such as The 150th Open Championship).

All events are pending Government travel restrictions, as well as general health and safety notices published by DFAT Smartraveller. If an event is cancelled, postponed or spectator free due to COVID-19, customers can choose to use their booking payments as credit to the rescheduled event or receive a full refund less a booking fee. This booking fee varies by event. Full details are available within our Booking Terms and Conditions.
