The America’s Cup is the oldest international sporting trophy and was first contested in 1851 at the Isle of Wight, where a group of American businessmen raced a fleet of British yachts to win the £100 cup. The name of the first winning ship was ‘America’ and so the trophy was named. In the preceding years, the New York Yacht Club successfully defended each challenge and retained the trophy from 1851 to 1983, a staggering 132 years and the longest winning streak in sports history. It wasn’t until a team from Royal Perth Yacht Club and the yacht, Australia II, owned by Alan Bond and skippered by John Bertrand, famously ended the winning streak in Rhode Island to the delight of nation and the yachting world.Read moreRead less
The America’s Cup has long been associated with leaders of industry, royalty, celebrities and sailing icons, which has helped make it the world’s most famous yacht race. Despite the United States dominating for the first 132 years, in the past 30 years, teams from New Zealand, Switzerland as well as the United States have successfully won the America’s Cup. The most recent 35th edition was won by Team New Zealand, where in Bermuda in 2017, they defeated Oracle Team USA in an exciting upset on home waters.
There is an inescapable, nerve-racking moment in every America’s Cup. It’s the moment where years of planning, designing, building, and training is put to the test and where dreams are made and broken. This is what makes the America’s Cup so special and why winning the America’s Cup means everything to sailors, teams and clubs, who devote their lives to pursuing the Auld Mug. You can experience the hype, excitement and ultimate triumph for yourself in Auckland this coming March, as Grant Dalton’s Emirates Team New Zealand defend their trophy. The defending team have picked a new class of boat, the AC75, a foiling monohull which brings new challenges, speeds and performance to the waters off Auckland.

A VIP level of hospitality is being designed and constructed for the America’s Cup Match located at Silo Park in the Wynyard Quarter.
Guests will arrive at 12pm for a sumptuous luncheon. While they are being wined and dined they will be entertained by an MC and special guest speakers with the expertise and knowledge to inform and entertain our guests. At approximately 1.30pm guests will be asked to begin the boarding of their charter boat(s) and departing to a restricted area of the race course, where only flagged vessels will be permitted. Racing is due to begin at 4pm and two races will take place. At approximately 6pm, the conclusion of the day’s racing, the charter boats will begin leaving and drop guests back at the hospitality marquee. Hospitality will continue, and conclude at approximately 9pm.
The corporate hospitality will be located in Silo Park, in the vibrant Wynyard Quarter, close to the bases of American Magic and Ineos Team UK. A purpose built hospitality area will be established around the 35 meter silos. Silo Park offers striking views across to West Haven Marina and the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
We will be chartering a number of boats. These will vary in shape and size, but every one will be aimed at maximising your comfort. We will be expecting to charter both shared vessels and private vessels. Private vessels are available for charter. These are boats that are chartered for you and your guests only. These range in size, but can accommodate most people’s requests. Once we know your preference for a private vessel, and your expected guest numbers (along with the amount of days you are looking at), we can allocate a boat to match. All boats will serve food and beverages, and special menus can be created for you and your guests on private boats.
Shared vessels will have food menus pre-set. Dietary requirements will be taken and every effort will be made to accommodate your request. Vessel loading and unloading locations will be in close proximity to the hospitality area. There may be delays due to the amount of activity in the Viaduct at that time, but every effort will be made to have you out on the race course in plenty of time.
The Land Package has been prepared for those guests who prefer to remain on land or could be afflicted with sea sickness. These guests will be allocated seating at tables of 10 within the marquee for the duration of the hospitality. The Private Package patrons will be allocated seating at tables of 10 within the marquee, while those guests who have purchased the Shared Package will be allocated to a dedicated bar leaner. There will be a limited number of outdoor (unallocated) facilities for all guests to utilise. Patrons must be advised to take advantage of the full hospitality. No guarantees will be given in supply of all or any food courses in a shortened time prior to boarding. There will be no delays to boarding times.
The following shoes are not allowed on board the boats:
Please be advised dietary requirements can be accommodated; however, please make sure we are given seven days notice of you and your guest’s allergies.
What you can choose from with Events Travel:
Auckland is New Zealand’s most populous city and often ranks among the world’s most livable cities. The subtropical climate means its warmer than the South Island and with beautiful beaches, a myriad of islands, rainforests, reserves and farmland, it’s a wonderful climate to live and enjoy the great outdoors.
No trip to New Zealand’s North Island is complete without visiting some of the world-famous attractions including Bay of Islands, Waiheke Island, Lake Taupo, Rotorua and the many national parks and world-class golf courses including Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers.
Back in the city and Auckland ticks all the boxes. During the America’s Cup, you’ll either be on the harbour or by the harbour-side and after a days racing is over, Auckland has a sophisticated restaurant and nightlife scene. On rest days, you can explore galleries, museums and wineries, or take a hike up Mt Eden or One Tree Hill, both notable parks within the cities reach.
If you’re feeling even more adventurous, you could add another dimension to your trip to New Zealand and fly or ferry to the South Island, where you can explore dramatic peaks, glaciers and rugged wilderness areas. On the South Island no trip is complete without visiting Queenstown, Mt Cook, Glenorchy, Wanaka, Milford Sound, Arrowtown and many other beautiful and wild destinations.
New Zealand is a beautiful island nation that has endless natural beauty, wonderful accommodations and tasteful food and attractions. Now it’s the perfect time to explore Auckland and New Zealand before or after the 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada.
