  • Pack plenty of warm clothes. Early starts and moderate altitude means it can get cold in the morning, especially up on the mountain. As the days progress, the sun often comes out and can be quite fierce, make sure to pack a hat, especially if you’re bringing a chair for one of the many embankments or choosing an open-air grandstand (all grandstands are uncovered, except grandstand 12.)
  • If you can, take a chair. It’s a long day out, so this is a great way to relax and enjoy your time without worrying about losing your spot on the many embankments around the track.
  • Grandstand 12 is the only covered grandstand, all other grandstands are uncovered and exposed to the elements. Keep this in mind if upgrading to a grandstand.
  • If you’re entertaining clients, colleagues or treating yourself or someone else for a special occasion, you can’t go past a hospitality experience. Most facilities are located above the pits except for Virgin Australia Paddock Club, which is opposite grandstand 12 on the inside of Turn 1. Another fantastic option is the Chase Club, which is on the rooftop of the Rydges Hotel and offers sweeping views of the track as cars hurtle down Conrod Straight.
  • After the racing concludes each day, if you’re at the top of the mountain be prepared to queue for a bus back down, which can take some time.

Bathurst is the oldest inland settlement in Australia, located 200 km northwest of Sydney. Although the town has a rich Aboriginal history, it was officially declared a townsite in 1815. Its popularity and growth is thanks to the discovery of gold in Australia in the mid-1800s, and its central location meant it was used as a gateway for exploration and development of the New South Wales region. Now, the region is a large producer of agriculture including vegetables, honey, fruits, forestry and grapes. Enjoy discovering this historically rich town dating back 40,000 years when it was once Aboriginal land through to the settlement and colonial growth that makes it the town it is today; lined with heritage-listed buildings and colonial mansions.

Bathurst has a temperate climate, and sits 650 metres above sea level, which means average rainfall is higher in this region. In October, you can expect highs of 21°C and lows of 7°C. Pack a rain jacket and warm layers to ensure race-day comfort and consider bringing an umbrella or hat to ensure all bases are covered — long days out at Mount Panorama can mean fans experience all types of weather.
