The port city of Newcastle is the second largest city in New South Wales and the seventh biggest in the country. Located around two hours drive north of Sydney and with it’s own airport, Newcastle feels like a world-away. ‘Newy’, as it’s affectionately known, is the second oldest city in the country and is home to amazing historic architecture, quirky bars, open waterfront parks, great dining and fabulous beaches. It’s a laid-back city that comes alive during the Newcastle 500 and with centrally located accommodation, you’ll be steps from the cities top attractions and just moments from the circuit. Hang around a couple of days after the race to enjoy Newcastle’s many attractions including the Newcastle Art Gallery, Newcastle Museum, Merewether Aquarium, Hunter Wetlands Centre and many beaches, shops, restaurants and areas of natural beauty. If you’re travelling from within NSW or QLD, you can drive to Newcastle, or if you’re travelling from around Australia, or New Zealand, you can fly direct to Newcastle or commute from Sydney with transport options and rental cars available on request.
March in Newcastle is the first month of autumn, yet it can still be hot and sunny with summer still lingering in the air. A covered grandstand or a hospitality suite will be the ideal place to enjoy the race from. Expect average highs of 25°C and lows of 19°C.
