EVENT OVERVIEW

US Masters 2017-2018

The US Masters is unlike any other event on the planet. It’s rich in tradition, ambience, energy and friendliness — you will never want to leave the impeccably manicured course at Augusta National.

The Masters is played by a small field, chosen by strict criteria, so you’ll only see the best of the best take to the famous fairways of Augusta. Throughout the storied history of the Masters Tournament (it began in 1934), 49 champions have won the coveted Green Jacket, Adam Scott in 2013, Bubba Watson 2012/2014, Jordan Spieth in 2015 and Danny Willett in 2016 — plus many golfing legends before them including; Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. The US Masters has a special place in the hearts of golfing greats due to the nature of the competition, the course, the spectators and the stunning aura at Augusta National.

If you’ve never been before, it’s an event that will top your bucket-list and worth every cent and second. We’ve been helping lucky travellers get to the Masters since 1994 and annually the feedback is nothing but exceptional. 2017 will be the 81st edition and to celebrate, we’re offering exclusive Event Packages and our 2018 US Masters Golf Tour is now available (the Tour will not run in 2017). We encourage you to read through this page, brochures or get in touch with us for more about how we can help you travel to this amazing event — who knows, maybe another Aussie will be wearing the coveted Green Jacket come Sunday.

Itinerary

Monday 9th April

Continue from the Event Tour in Augusta, or other Individual Event Packages.

This morning around 09:30 we travel from Augusta through Georgia and South Carolina to North Carolina to the famous Pinehurst Resort.

On arrival it’s lunch at the Ryder Cup Bar & Lounge before checking-in to our luxury accommodation in the historic and sublime Carolina Hotel at Pinehurst.

Tonight we have a Welcome Dinner included; dress smart casual.

Pinehurst Resort is in the heart of North Carolina’s sand hills and is considered the home of golf in America. Golfers the world over have this venue on their bucket-list— the time has come for you! Relax and unwind while enjoying the ambience and the spirit of the occasion, venue and surrounds. This is made much easier with the Southern charm of North Carolina’s locals.

It’s fitting on our Carolinas Tour that we start at The Carolina — a historic hotel built in 1901 and dubbed the Queen of the South.

Welcome to Pinehurst, North Carolina

Tuesday 10th April

After a hearty breakfast today we play the stunning Pinehurst #8 Course (Tom Fazio) which has a quality of its own meandering through forests, lakes and with excellent bunkering. It’s a peaceful (maybe) and a rewarding experience! After golf it’s time to relax and unwind to soak up the local atmosphere before dinner at your leisure tonight – try the nearby Holly Inn or quaint local options in nearby Pinehurst Village, all within walking distance (500m) or a short local shuttle away.

Pinehurst #8

Wednesday 11th April

Today we head further afield to experience the very highly rated Tobacco Road Golf Course (Mike Stranz). Looking rather daunting from the start all you need to do is hit the ball to the right spot – easy! The evening is at leisure in Pinehurst after a wonderful day in golf heaven!

Tobacco Road

Thursday 12th April

The day you have been waiting for as we head to the tee box at Pinehurst #2. Donald Ross spent his life tweaking and designing this course, the centrepiece of the Pinehurst complex — the St. Andrews of North America. No matter what happens out there we are sure to have the time of our lives playing this famous course. It plays long and hard even off the white tees — it’s all about positioning your next shot and you have had some practice! Afterwards it’s back to the club house to regale our antics before preparing for dinner at your leisure.

Pinehurst #2

Friday 13th April

After breakfast we hit the road again heading south east for around 3.5 hours until we hit the Atlantic coast at Charleston. After a look around one of America’s most beautiful cities and one of the top food hubs of the US, it’s lunch at your leisure before we move onto Kiawah Island and our boutique accommodation for four nights at the charming Andell Inn. The spacious 1 bedroom apartments will help you unwind after a travel and sightseeing day.

Saturday 14th April

An official rest day. Time to catch up on some washing & drying, take a sleep in, walk on the beach, long lunch or all of the above. Optional Golf will be provided in the area for those interested and an option will be provided closer to the time. The hotel has a guest laundry and the village is just a few steps away. You can eat in your room with a full kitchen and dining facilities provided so head for the Grocer & Deli nearby for some fresh provisions and a bottle of wine!

Tonight we meet in the hotel bar to discuss the action for the next few days – dinner at your leisure.

Sunday 15th April

One simply can’t come to this area without playing the Ocean Course (Pete Dye #4 public course in the USA), home to the 2012 PGA Championship and the 2007 Senior PGA. In 2021 the PGA Championship will be back here again so this is a seriously high ranking golf course. Being an ocean course, the wind often has a solid presence so get ready for what will clearly be a challenging yet rewarding day out. Padraig Harrington claims this as his favourite area in the United States; Charleston, Kiawah Island and the Ocean Course, where he won the World Cup in 1987, winners are grinners! After a few drinks at the 19th we head back to our hotel to pack and get ready for the next leg of our memorable golf tour through the Carolinas and a foray into Georgia.

The Ocean Course

Monday 16th April

The Links at Stono Ferry (Ron Garl) is one of the top courses in the region so we’d better play it! In 1779 the battle of Stono Ferry was fought on these grounds and you can also do battle between yourself and the course. Just when you have it mastered coming up to the 18th….just think of the 300 who perished in just 2 hours at this very spot!

Tonight before drinks we have time to pack before heading to the bar for a drink with dinner on us tonight.

The Links at Stono Ferry

Tuesday 17th April

Today we drive south for just a few hours to the Georgian city of Savannah for two nights. This is a historical and picturesque city with a fabulous array of pioneering characters dating back into the early 18th century. On arrival we will take a Trolley Tour (included) before checking in to our accommodation; the Bohemian (or similar) located in the heart of the city. The city was originally named Georgia as the last of the 13 Colonies. Dinner is at your leisure and there are a multitude of options – try the local crab!

Wednesday 18th April

Today is a free day to explore the many aspects of Savannah; museums, cafes, shops, fabulous restaurants and a multitude of terrific tourist attractions such as; the riverfront, 22 City Squares that make up the architecture of the city and more. Today is a great day to explore, shop and enjoy. An optional round of golf will be available today at one of the many high quality courses in the area. Let us know.

Thursday 19th April

Today we take the short trip to Hilton Head Island and the stunning Sea Pines Resort. Check in will occur after 2.00pm and in the meantime we will take a look around the area stopping for lunch. Tonight is at your leisure.

Friday 20th April

Today is one of the top courses of the Tour, where we play Heron Point (Pete Dye); with its new stunning club house, part of The Sea Pines Resort and the sister course to Harbour Town. It’s a very well designed course in excellent condition and a great way to get going on Hilton Head Island! Look out for the long dog-leg 18th and get your camera’s ready.

Tonight is a free night to relax at your leisure. There are some good restaurants in the area, recommendations available.

Heron Point

Saturday 21st April

Harbour Town is home to the RBC Heritage PGA Tour Event held the week after the Masters so the course itself will be in top shape and you can watch how the pro’s negotiate before you have a go yourself. This is a fabulous way to finish the tour and we will be one of the first groups on the course after the event so let’s pray the mowers have been out! After today’s round we can enjoy the magnificent club house which rates as one of the best anywhere – it’s truly stunning and you can raid the sweets jar!

Tonight dinner is at your leisure.

Harbour Town

Sunday 22nd April

Today is sadly the day our Tour ends and we bid farewell to new friends.

After breakfast we head to Savannah Airport (1 hour). A schedule will be provided once we have a handle on everyone’s flights. From Savannah to Australia the best connection is via Dallas onto Qantas or you can connect via Charlotte to Los Angeles or New York. It is likely transfers will be provided for the connection to Qantas departing around 15:00 so we will depart the hotel at 11:00am to cover most flights. If you book flights with EWT we guarantee a transfer to the flight. If you do your own flights a charge may apply depending on the time of your flight and if a separate trip has to be undertaken.

Post Tour travel arrangements can be made, including accommodation and other travel services — let us know what you need!

Average Highs:
23-26°C
Average Lows: 8-12°C
Overall:  The 2015 event was warm and hot in the sun. The 2016 event was cold in the mornings (8-12°C) and only warmed up in the afternoon. We suggest packing for all seasons and with comfortable footwear for walking the course all day.
