The Australian Open
Experience Australia’s biggest sporting event and celebrate our 25th anniversary helping fans enjoy the Australian Open!
The Australian Open is the first of the four tennis Grand Slams held each year, alongside the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open. Out of these Grand Slam’s, the Australian Open is the most attended and Australia’s most popular event with 743,668 people attending in 2018!
The Australian Open has a long history dating back to 1905 and has created many of tennis’s most defining moments. With over a century in Melbourne, the event has blossomed to encompass the city, especially the Melbourne Park precinct which has numerous show courts and incredible arenas including Margaret Court Arena, Hisense Arena and Rod Laver Arena, which is being remodelled for 2019. The Australian Open is referred to as the ‘Players Favourite’ and is widely anticipated on the Australian sports calendar as one of the first major events of the year. The Australian Open never fails to deliver with excitement on and off the court through activities, entertainment and dining options for the whole family plus many areas to relax and enjoy the atmosphere all day.
During the Australian Open, Melbourne is transformed into a hive of activity as it’s placed on the international stage, attracting fans from all corners of the globe. January is a fantastic time to visit Melbourne with the warm weather making day-trips to the beaches, parks and attractions across the city very enjoyable.
2019 will be our 25th Australian Open and the 17th as an Official Tour Operator, having helped found the OTO program back in 2002. With this experience, we hope you will trust us to provide you with an exceptional Australian Open experience.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 2019 Australian Open, the Grand Slam of Asia Pacific.

Can you explain how AM/PM sessions work?
If you take a Day Session with a Reserved seat in Rod Laver Arena or Margaret Court Arena you can then stay within Melbourne Park for the Night Session (but not with a reserved seat). You cannot re-enter Melbourne Park if you leave without a Night Session ticket (Grounds Pass or a reserved seat). You can purchase a Grounds Pass for a Day Session and then purchase a Reserved Seat on RLA or MCA for the Night Session, but access to the actual Arena and your reserved seat will start no earlier than 7.00pm. We can provide tickets to Hisense Arena which has free seating throughout the day and night. All ticket types can be “mix and matched” within any Package and we can quote on this prior to you making a booking with us.
Please ensure you are satisfied with your mix of tickets and sessions before you book because tickets cannot be reversed once committed to. Ask us about a Margaret Court Arena Reserved Ticket – it’s a fabulous contemporary Arena and that’s where our exclusive Events Travel Bar is also located.
Shade vs. Sun at the Australian Open, can you provide advice?
January in Melbourne can be very hot. When the temperature reaches or is expected to exceed 32C, the roof at Rod Laver Arena will close and the stadium becomes air-conditioned. If the roof remains open, many of the lower level seats (On-Court, Super Row, Category 1 seats) will be in the sun. Nearly all Category 2 and Category 1 seats will have some sun during the day. If you want to upgrade to Category 1 or lower seats, expect sun throughout the day. If you have a shade preference, please advise us when booking and we will do our best to fulfil your request. We do have a shade and sun feature to our seating map.
What Australian Open tickets are available and can you explain the different types?
Roam the public areas and free seating show courts.
ROD LAVER ARENA
Category 3: All seats are upper level, mostly shaded
Category 2: An upgrade to Cat. 2 is also upper level, but closer to the action and still has some sun at times (day)
Category 1: These new cushioned seats are all lower level in prime locations, often in the sun (day)
Super Row: The first row above the court – very limited and sells out quickly, mainly sun (day)
On Court Seating: Contact us for seating on the court with hospitality – an awesome experience!
MARGARET COURT ARENA
This court is located next to Rod Laver Arena and is the newest state of the art court with all four categories; Cat 3, Cat 2, Cat 1 & Super Row.
This is a ticketed arena with free seating inside. Contact us for a quote to include a session or two in week 1.
Can I purchase Australian Open Tickets by themselves?
Our Official Australian Open Tickets are only available for purchase within our Official Packages, either a customised Package with minimum 1 nights accommodation or our pre-made Packages. Individual tickets go on sale late in 2018 through authorised outlets. We can add-on extra tickets to any package to create your ideal experience.
When do I receive my tickets and package?
Your Australian Open Tickets and package will be sent at least two weeks before the event via registered post, courier or made available for collection upon check-in to your hotel in Melbourne. More information will be provided on booking.
How do you allocate seats purchased per session?
As an Official Tour Operator, we receive a priority ticket allocation from Tennis Australia and allocate our tickets to our customers in booking date order with a seperate allocation for our VIP Finals Packages. We encourage you to book and upgrade tickets early to ensure priority seating allocations. If you request sun/shade or a particular area, we can take those requests and will attempt to fulfil them, but requests are not guaranteed. We now have seating sections and row numbers which can be provided on booking!
What Hospitality options are available?
The Australian Open offers a number of premium Hospitality venues and experiences. Please ask us about the full range of experiences and hospitality options available to add to your package.
The Events Travel Bar is a new offering this year, exclusive to Events Travel, and offers casual hospitality and great views of the city, Court 2 and Court 3 from inside the air-conditioned venue in Margaret Court Arena.
Do you have the full Australian Open match schedule?
This is subject to change for 2019 but gives you an idea on dates and sessions.
Do you have seating plans?
Rod Laver Arena Seating Map (subject to change for 2019)
What other tennis events do you do?
As experts in global sports and event travel, we can help you enjoy all of tennis’s Grand Slams including Wimbledon, French Open and the US Open. As an Official Tour Operator for Tennis Australia, we can also help you enjoy the Hopman Cup and Brisbane International, both important lead-up events to the Australian Open held each January. If you would like a quote or options to see any of these events, please contact us.
Can you explain the room sharing and pricing options?
Double means two people in a room in typically a queen or king bed.
Twin means two people in a room in typically two individual beds.
Triple means three people in a room in either two beds or three individual beds.
Quad means four people in a room.
Five means five people in a room.
Single means one person in a room in typically a queen or king bed.
All listed pricing is per person. For example in a triple room the grand total price is x3 of the displayed per person price, twin or double is x2.
Single rooms are more expensive then double or twin rooms as the room cost is not divided between two guests as most hotels offer a room price that is the same whether there are two or one occupants.
I have a group, can you help?
We are group travel experts and can tailor our packages and services to suit your groups needs with variations to our standard packages. Contact us today to get your Australian Open Group Package started!
What travel services do you offer?
We offer a full range of travel services, such as:
- Accommodation (4 or 5 star)
- Transport and Car Hire
- Travel Insurance
- Sightseeing tickets and Experiences
- Cruises and other requests
Can I extend my stay longer than your package dates?
Yes, we have contracted fantastic hotel rates for the event and adjacent dates before/after. Please ask us for a quote for extra nights for your package. We can provide accommodation elsewhere too.
