About this tour
Experience the thrill of Test cricket between Australia and India in the historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy, paired with a luxury tiger safari at Tadoba and the timeless wonders of Delhi and Agra — a once-in-a-lifetime sporting journey curated exclusively for ACS Members and Friends.
Join celebrated cricket author and commentator Ken Piesse on a 19-day small group tour through India, beginning in the imperial capital of Delhi, continuing to Agra for the Taj Mahal, and culminating in two unforgettable Test matches at Nagpur’s VCA Stadium and Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium — the opening fixtures of the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. This is only the second five-Test series staged in India since 1991–92, and the most immersive way to experience cricket’s final frontier.
Ken Piesse is one of Australia’s most prolific sports writers with nearly 100 publications to his name and almost a dozen cricket tours led with Events Travel. Two nights in Delhi at the storied The Claridges open the tour, with a full day exploring Old and New Delhi. From there, you travel to Agra for a night at the Taj View Hotel, with afternoon visits to Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal at sunset. Six nights at Le Meridien Nagpur anchor the 1st Test at the VCA Stadium, with an optional excursion to the temples and fort of Ramtek. The journey then heads into the wild heart of central India for two nights at Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge in Tadoba — one of India’s most celebrated tiger reserves — where jeep safaris offer the chance to encounter Bengal tigers and elusive leopards in pristine forest.
The tour concludes with six nights at the elegant Taj Connemara in Chennai for the 2nd Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, complemented by a guided city tour taking in the Government Museum’s Chola bronzes, San Thome Cathedral, Kapaleeshwara Temple and Marina Beach.
We deliberately limit our numbers and as Ken says, we are like a travelling family, with many new friendships made and lots of fun, with Test greats making surprise appearances, like in Jamaica last winter when Lawrence Rowe spoke to our group at a special celebratory hometown dinner in honour of the record-breaking West Indian.

The Claridges New Delhi
The Claridges New Delhi is a heritage luxury hotel set in the leafy diplomatic enclave of Lutyens’ Delhi, on Aurangzeb Road. Established in 1955 as one of independent India’s earliest five-star hotels, this gracious three-storey property is spread across three acres of lush lawns and stands within easy reach of Lodhi Gardens, the National Museum and India Gate. Its enduring old-world charm, eclectic art collection and stately architecture have made it a longstanding institution in the capital.
The hotel offers 132 spacious rooms and suites, with select accommodations featuring private terraces. Interiors blend classic and contemporary styling, with wooden flooring, four-poster or upholstered beds and curated artwork. In-room amenities include a satellite flat-screen television, pillow menu, mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities, in-room safe and Wi-Fi access.
Dining is a particular highlight, with multiple venues including Sevilla for Mediterranean and Spanish fare, Dhaba for rustic North Indian cuisine, Jade for Chinese-Cantonese cooking, Erawaan for Thai, Lutyens Deli for all-day buffets and high tea, and Ye Old Bakery patisserie. Aura, the in-house bar, anchors the evening scene, while the Elephant Bar offers a refined cocktail setting. Wellness facilities include the Cinqtuair Spa, the Sumaya fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool set amid landscaped greenery.
Tajview, Agra – IHCL SeleQtions
Tajview, Agra – IHCL SeleQtions is a premium five-star hotel located on Fatehabad Road in the historical centre of Agra, just a short drive from the Taj Mahal and within easy reach of Agra Fort and the city’s other Mughal-era landmarks. Spread across six acres of landscaped lawns with organic fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, the property’s design draws on Mughal architectural hallmarks — domes, arches, latticed windows and intricate parchin kari marble inlay — interpreted in a contemporary style. A long-standing city landmark since the 1970s, the hotel is also pet-friendly.
The hotel offers 92 rooms and suites across several categories, with views ranging over the gardens, the temperature-controlled outdoor pool and, in the higher categories, the Taj Mahal itself. Deluxe Rooms feature inlaid Pietra Dura marble flooring referencing the monument’s craftsmanship, while Executive Rooms occupy the upper floors and offer elevated living areas. Taj-facing rooms and suites provide direct views of the iconic landmark. In-room amenities include Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions, mini-bars, coffee makers, and bathrooms with rain showers and complimentary toiletries.
Dining options span Jhankar for Indian fine dining, Svanga Kitchen as the all-day diner serving Indian and international buffets including the ‘Agre ka Nashta’ regional breakfast section, and SkyDeck for rooftop dining with views of the Taj Mahal. Saqui Bar offers cocktails and wines alongside live piano performances. Wellness facilities include the tented Jiva Spa, a fitness studio, a cosy library and the temperature-controlled outdoor pool, with curated experiences such as marble-inlay craft sessions, magicians, sitar performances and farm-to-table dining rounding out the stay.
Le Méridien Nagpur
Le Méridien Nagpur is a contemporary five-star hotel located on Wardha Road, opposite the MIHAN flyover, around 6.5 km from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. The hotel is well placed for travellers exploring central Nagpur, with the city centre approximately 15 km away and Ambazari Lake within easy reach. Set against landscaped lawns, the property combines the European-inspired heritage of the Le Méridien brand with upscale, modern hospitality, and is also pet-friendly.
The hotel offers 132 rooms and suites across categories including Deluxe Guest Rooms, Club Rooms with lounge access, Executive Suites and a Presidential Suite. Rooms feature pillow-top mattresses, pillow menus, marble bathrooms with rain or roll-in showers, work desks, mini-bars, in-room safes, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Club category rooms include access to the Club Lounge, with breakfast, evening cocktails and additional privileges.
Dining venues include Latest Recipe, the all-day multi-cuisine coffee shop, and Kebab Hut, specialising in traditional Nawabi cuisine, complemented by Longitude Bar and a poolside bar. Wellness amenities feature the Tattva Wellness Spa with single and couple therapy rooms equipped with private steam and shower facilities, a fitness centre with strength equipment and treadmills, and an outdoor swimming pool set amid landscaped grounds. Complimentary on-site parking, electric vehicle charging and 24-hour room service round out the offering.
The Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge, Tadoba
The Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge is a luxury eco-retreat set on the edge of Maasal Lake in central India, roughly a 90-minute drive from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur and only a 10-minute drive from the Kolara Gate of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve — Maharashtra’s largest tiger reserve. Surrounded by jungle and rich birdlife, the property has been designed with traditional mud plastering and locally inspired murals, reflecting a strong commitment to ecotourism, community engagement and conservation, including the use of electric safari vehicles.
Accommodation comprises 9 spacious lakeside villas, 3 chalets (each containing four interconnecting rooms ideal for groups) and 2 bungalows housing two individual rooms each around a shared lounge and outdoor area. Lakeside villas feature a king-size bed, a large bathroom, a private patio overlooking the lake, an open-to-sky bathtub and a private garden. All rooms include air conditioning, heating, hot and cold showers, Wi-Fi, satellite television, tea and coffee making facilities, and a mini-bar.
The lodge’s restaurant, Machan, serves Indian and international cuisine prepared with locally sourced ingredients, with the option of al fresco dining on the lakeside deck or curated meals at the rooftop gazebo under the stars. Beyond dining, the lodge offers a traditional spa, a library, lakeside picnics, candlelit dinners, guided birdwatching, nature walks, cycling excursions and naturalist-led night walks. Morning and afternoon jeep safaris into Tadoba — home to Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, gaur and dhole — are the centrepiece of any stay.
Taj Connemara, Chennai
Taj Connemara is the only heritage hotel in Chennai and reputedly the oldest hotel in the city, with origins dating back to 1854 when it opened as the Imperial Hotel before being renamed The Connemara in 1890 in honour of the then Governor of Madras. Set on a 4.2-acre site on Binny Road, off Anna Salai, the property sits in the heart of the city beside Spencer Plaza, within easy reach of Government Museum Chennai, the Connemara Public Library and Marina Beach. Following a 22-month restoration, the hotel reopened in October 2018, blending Classic Colonial and Art Deco design with elements of Geoffrey Bawa’s Tropical Modernism, the architect having designed the tower block and pool in the 1970s.
The hotel offers 147 rooms and suites across the Tower and Heritage wings, including 143 double rooms and 4 suites. Each is appointed with elegant four-poster beds, vintage prints and curated objets d’art, with rooms in the colonial wing leaning more heavily on period furniture and classical detailing. Many face the pool or garden. In-room amenities include air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, pillow menus, in-room safes, flat-screen televisions and bathrooms with showers and complimentary toiletries.
Dining venues reflect the hotel’s storied past: Raintree serves authentic Chettinad cuisine in a setting inspired by traditional Tamil mansions, while The Verandah is the all-day restaurant offering Anglo-Indian, Italian, Indian and South Indian fare alongside afternoon tea. The Lady Connemara Bar & Lounge — recognised as the city’s first licensed bar — offers cocktails, wines and spirits in colonial-era surrounds. Wellness facilities include the J Wellness Circle (Jiva) Spa with traditional Indian therapies and Ayurveda treatments, a modern fitness centre, a hair salon, a library and an expansive outdoor swimming pool set amid mature gardens with the property’s landmark raintree.
Hotel information, descriptions, and images are provided for reference only and are sourced from official hotel websites or suppliers. Amenities, facilities, and features are subject to change without notice. For the most up-to-date information, please refer directly to the hotel’s official website or contact our team. All hotels are subject to change in the final itinerary; if a listed hotel becomes unavailable, a hotel of an equivalent or higher standard will be offered in its place (“or similar”).
