1. Historic Roots: The Monaco Grand Prix was first held in 1929, making it one of the oldest and most storied races in motorsport history. It was organised by Antony Noghès, with support from Prince Louis II of Monaco and the Automobile Club de Monaco .
2. Unique Track: The Monaco circuit is a street track that winds through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine. The track is just 3.337 km long, making it the shortest circuit on the F1 calendar. Despite its short length, drivers have to complete 78 laps, the most of any race .
3. Challenging Layout: The tight corners, elevation changes, and narrow roads make overtaking extremely difficult, putting a premium on qualifying position. The circuit features famous sections like the Casino Square, the Fairmont Hairpin (one of the slowest corners in F1), and the tunnel .
4. Royal Prestige: The Monaco Grand Prix is famous for its glamorous atmosphere, attracting celebrities, royalty, and the wealthy elite. The event is traditionally attended by members of the Monaco royal family, including Prince Albert II .
5. Unique Podium Ceremony: Unlike most races where the podium is located in the pit lane, the Monaco Grand Prix podium ceremony takes place on the steps of the royal box. This unique setup allows the winners to be celebrated in front of the grandstands and the harbour .
6. Safety Car Records: Due to the tight and twisty nature of the circuit, the Monaco Grand Prix has seen numerous safety car deployments over the years. It holds the record for the highest number of safety car appearances in a single race .
7. Home to Legends: Some of the greatest names in Formula 1 have triumphed at Monaco. Ayrton Senna holds the record for the most wins, with six victories between 1987 and 1993. Graham Hill, known as “Mr. Monaco,” won five times during the 1960s .
