  • Destination

    Royal Birkdale

Royal Birkdale is one of the most celebrated venues in The Open Championship’s history. Established in 1889 and redesigned in 1922, the course has hosted The Open ten times since 1954. Renowned for its challenging yet fair layout, Royal Birkdale’s defining features include towering sand dunes, undulating fairways, and unpredictable coastal winds from the Irish Sea. The course demands precision off the tee, with deep bunkers and firm greens requiring strategic shot-making. Unlike some links courses, Birkdale offers clear sightlines, but its relentless test of ball control makes it a true championship challenge.

The club boasts world-class facilities, including a historic clubhouse, excellent hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere for spectators. It has also hosted two Ryder Cups, the Women’s British Open, and the Senior Open Championship. With its rich history and breathtaking setting, Royal Birkdale remains a bucket-list destination for golf fans worldwide.

    Southport, England

Nestled on the Merseyside coast, Southport is a charming Victorian seaside town known for its expansive beaches, Victorian architecture, and lively cultural scene. Just 40 minutes from Liverpool and an hour from Manchester, it offers the perfect mix of coastal relaxation and easy access to two of England’s most dynamic cities.

Southport is famed for its historic pier, the second-longest in the UK, offering stunning views over the Irish Sea. Visitors can stroll along Lord Street, a tree-lined boulevard filled with boutique shops, cafés, and stunning Victorian arcades that once inspired Napoleon III. Golf lovers will find themselves in paradise, as Southport is part of England’s “Golf Coast”, home to world-class courses including Royal Birkdale.

Beyond golf, Southport boasts picturesque botanic gardens and tranquil nature reserves, offering the perfect retreat for nature lovers. Just a short trip away, Liverpool invites music lovers to explore The Beatles Story and the legendary Cavern Club, where the Fab Four’s journey began. Or for the cricket enthusiasts, head to Manchester’s Old Trafford, the iconic home of Lancashire Cricket and a venue steeped in sporting history.

    Climate

Southport, England, experiences a mild and pleasant climate in July, with average temperatures ranging from 14°C to 21°C (57°F to 70°F). As a coastal town, it benefits from refreshing sea breezes, though occasional light rain showers are common. Long daylight hours provide plenty of time to explore, while the mix of sunshine and cloud cover creates comfortable conditions for outdoor activities, including golf, sightseeing, and seaside walks. As is the case with any visit to England in summer, we recommend packing light layers and a rain jacket.

Very convenient. Book everything together.

Booking through Events travel gave us the opportunity to purchase Australian Open tennis tickets prior to the general ticket sales. They gave us an extensive list of hotels to choose from. We booked tickets at Rod Laver arena which we were very happy with. We hope to use Events Travel again.
