Mount Panorama Circuit

Originally constructed in 1938 as a scenic tourist drive, Mount Panorama has hosted all types of motorsport including the world-famous Bathurst 1000, the annual 12 Hour GT race, 24 Hour endurance races and the Easter motorcycle meetings.

The circuit is a public road throughout the year, although not accessible over Bathurst weekend. The circuit has also hosted the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in the past. It remains one of the all-time favourite circuits for Supercars drivers and is ranked among the great racing circuits of the world.

Bathurst — Bathurst

Bathurst is Australia’s oldest inland settlement, located approximately 200 kilometres northwest of Sydney in the Central West of New South Wales. The region has a deep Aboriginal history dating back more than 40,000 years and was formally established as a townsite in 1815. Its growth accelerated during the Australian gold rush of the mid-1800s, when Bathurst became a key gateway for inland exploration and development.

Today, Bathurst is a proud regional centre known for its rich heritage, grand colonial architecture and strong connection to the surrounding countryside. Tree-lined streets, heritage-listed buildings and historic homesteads sit alongside a thriving local food and wine scene, supported by agriculture including vegetables, fruit, honey, forestry and cool-climate vineyards.

Each October, Bathurst takes on a unique energy as Mount Panorama transforms the town into the epicentre of Australian motorsport. Race week brings together locals, teams and fans in a shared celebration of Australia’s Great Race, creating an atmosphere that is both welcoming and unmistakably authentic.

Climate — Bathurst 1000

Bathurst has a temperate climate and sits approximately 650 metres above sea level, resulting in cooler conditions than coastal New South Wales and slightly higher average rainfall. October typically delivers mild, changeable spring weather that is well suited to long days at Mount Panorama.

During the Bathurst 1000 weekend, visitors can expect average daytime highs of around 21°C and overnight lows near 7°C. Conditions can vary throughout the day, with sunshine, cloud cover and the occasional shower all possible across a race weekend.

Guests are advised to pack warm layers, a light rain jacket and comfortable footwear, as time spent around the mountain often involves walking and extended periods outdoors. A hat, sunscreen and umbrella are also recommended to ensure comfort in all conditions and to make the most of every session at the circuit.

Staff tips

• Early mornings at Mount Panorama can be cool due to the circuit’s elevation, especially during practice and qualifying. Dress in layers so you can adjust as the day warms up.
• Weather conditions can change quickly. Pack a hat, sunscreen and a light rain jacket, particularly for uncovered seating and embankments.
• Race days are long. Portable chairs are recommended if you plan to sit on embankments around the circuit.
• Grandstand seating offers a more structured viewing experience. Grandstand 12 is the only covered grandstand at Mount Panorama.
• Hospitality suites provide premium comfort and elevated views. Most overlook pit lane action, while venues such as Paddock Club (Turn 1) and the Chase Club (Rydges rooftop) offer views of Conrod Straight.
• Food, non-alcoholic drinks, chairs and personal items are permitted inside the circuit. Alcohol cannot be brought in unless you are camping on Mount Panorama.
• Refillable water bottles are recommended. Water refill stations are available throughout the circuit.

Getting there

1. Self-drive: Free parking is available outside the circuit. Traffic is well managed and generally flows smoothly across race weekend.
2. Bathurst shuttle: Available for guests staying at Littomore Hotels & Suites, with convenient transfers to and from the circuit, including a hotel stop. Fans must buy tickets directly from the local coach operator.
3. Millthorpe coach transfers: Daily return coach transfers to Mount Panorama are included for guests staying in Millthorpe. Travel time is approximately 35 minutes.
