The modern-day Anzac match was conceived in the mid-1990s by Essendon’s coach at the time, Kevin Sheedy. After serving two years in the Army himself, Sheedy considered the impact football had on Australians, and the role it could play in paying tribute to those who have served their country. Though AFL matches had previously been played on Anzac Day, the first modern-day Anzac match between Collingwood and Essendon (played in 1995) quickly became a highly-anticipated clash with thousands flocking to the MCG to watch on. With a whopping 94,825 fans in attendance, the crowd could be heard from more than 1 km away. This record-breaking attendance remains one of the highest attendances in AFL history.
The Anzac match has continued to grow in popularity throughout the years, with sell-out crowds attending each year. It is a day for Australians to celebrate the Anzac spirit and pay tribute to those who have served the nation.

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia. The gallery is home to more than 70,000 works from international and local artists; ranging from contemporary art to historic exhibitions. With temporary international exhibitions also on display, there really is something to please everyone at NGV.
Established in 1867, South Melbourne Market is your quintessential village market, home to a plethora of artisanal traders. Here you can find fresh produce including locally caught seafood, and an array of bakeries, delicatessens, florists and eateries! It's a foodie haven and well worth a visit.
Under two hours from Melbourne is the scenic Great Ocean Road and world famous Twelve Apostles, accessible via a quick day trip, but best explored over a few days with a rental car and stops in Torquay, Anglesea and Lorne.
Melbourne is home to world-renowned street art. Most notable is Hosier Lane, just off Flinders Street and Flinders Lane, where you'll be amazed by years of compounding art with history and walking tours available.
Less than an hour from Melbourne is the famous Yarra Valley wine region. The region is home to breathtaking scenery and activities for all ages including Yarra Valley Chocolate Factory, Healesville Sanctuary and an abundance of world-class wineries. It's well-worth a day trip or over-night stay.

AFL Anzac Day 2024 packages including hospitality and match tickets are on sale now. If you’re a Melbourne resident and not looking for accommodation, we might be able to assist with a hospitality only package (low availability).
If you’re looking for match tickets only, then you’ll need to wait until the General Public ticket sales period, in early 2024.
There are two ways to buy AFL Anzac Day 2024 tickets.
For AFL Anzac Day 2024 we have an Express Package which includes two nights accommodation or a Relax Package which includes four nights accommodation — all with daily breakfast and a few different hotels to choose from. Both options come with a choice of hospitality package and match tickets to Collingwood vs Essendon.
From here you can create a customised package with our team if you are looking for 3 nights or 5+ nights, plus you can add other match tickets such as Richmond vs Melbourne, NRL and extra travel services including; flights, transport, sightseeing, travel insurance and more.
There are no supporter restrictions for the hospitality functions, however both teams have their own hosted functions, which means speakers, entertainment and branding is likely to be from those clubs. If you’re looking for a neutral function, then the MCG hosted functions would be the best option for you.
The dress code varies for each hospitality function, as a rule of thumb smart casual would ensure you have no problems. Avoid ripped jeans, t-shirts, open toed shoes and shorts. Team jerseys, beanies and scarves are welcome. Ask our team if you have any queries when selecting a hospitality option.
