This upcoming Rugby World Cup is the centrepiece of a golden decade of rugby in Australia. The fixtures kick off with the British & Irish Lions series in 2025, followed by the men’s Rugby World Cup in 2027, the women’s Rugby World Cup in 2029, and the Olympics in 2032. Rugby World Cup 2027 Australia is confirmed to start 1 October 2027 and finish 13 November 2027.
Rugby World Cup 2027 will be hosted by Australia for the third time. They previously co-hosted with New Zealand in 1987 and held it exclusively in 2003.
In 1987, the first World Cup had 16 teams. The most recent World Cup in France had 20 teams. For Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia there will be 24 teams. World Rugby and unions have made this change to increase the competitiveness of the global game in addition to increasing reach, impact and value of international rugby.
The next Rugby World Cup after 2027 in Australia will be Rugby World Cup 2031 in the United States. It will be the second World Cup to be held outside the traditional heartland of the sport, the first being Japan 2019 which was the biggest World Cup at the time.
Rugby World Cup 2027 tickets and packages will go on sale at different times. Official travel packages and tours will likely go on sale in 2025, approximately two years before the tournament begins, while tickets will go on sale approximately one year before the tournament begins.
There will be two ways to buy official Rugby World Cup 2027 tickets.
